About License Agreements

Use of all electronic resources subscribed to by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is governed by copyright law and by license agreements with the publishers which restrict the use of the electronic resources as outlined below. Misuse of these resources violates the terms of the BA's license agreements. Violation of license agreement can result in loss of access for all library patrons.

Authorized Users

License agreements between the library and the publishers restrict database use to registered users (users who hold library membership cards), staff, interns, and individuals who use the library on-site facilities (walk-in users).

Permitted Uses

Electronic resources subscribed to by the BA are intended for educational or research purposes. Authorized users can:

  • Access, search, or browse the electronic resources.
  • Print and download individual journal articles or individual book chapters.

Downloading and/or distributing entire issues or volumes of electronic resources constitute a material breach of copyright law and the publisher's license agreements.

Prohibited Uses

It is strictly prohibited to:

  • Download, distribute or retain entire issues or volumes of journals or other electronic resources.
  • Systematically copy the information provided in the electronic resources for mass distribution or to create derivative works.
  • Modify, reproduce, retransmit, distribute, disseminate, sell, publish, broadcast or circulate the information contained in the electronic resources.
  • Attempt to download the entire website or database.
  • Run automated search scripts; use accelerators, robots, or crawlers to archive or mine data from the electronic resources; or use it for offline browsing.
  • Share username and password with any other person or organization (for future remote users).
  • Sell or make any commercial use of the electronic resources.

It is strongly recommended that users carefully read the Terms of Use of each individual electronic resource they wish to use.

In Case of Misuse

Any misuse of electronic resources subscribed to by the BA may result in corrective actions toward the user who committed the breach. Repeated misuse of electronic resources will result in the cancellation of the user's membership card.

Off-site/Remote Access Future Service

The BA will soon be introducing a new service to registered users where they will be granted remote access to some of the library's electronic resources from their own homes or offices. The launch of this service will be announced on the website.
