Doctors and
managers
Come from
different backgrounds……Social Class, School
Are
differently educated……University degrees versus Diplomas
Have different
agendas……..R & D,Quality versus Productivity,Value for $
Are
differently paid………….Salaries, fees versus Salary, bonus, share option
Have different
job security…..Stable,secure versus Mobile,sackable
They rarely
socialise…………Hobbies,holidays, homes
Doctors often patronise while
Mangers resent their authoritarianism.
It is not surprising that
there are often problems when they come together in the complex
situation of expensive and potentially dangerous health care.
Doctors are more often now
studying Management and taking an MBA and making the transition into
management. Managers do not become doctors!
The two tribes need to
celebrate their differences but to learn from each other and work
together for a greater end.
