About the Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) are pleased to announce the launching of the second call of the Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program for Young Researchers.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) mission is to be a center of excellence for the production and dissemination of knowledge, and to revive its past reputation as a destination for scholars from all around the world, and a center for scientific and intellectual debate. As one of the BA’s academic research centers, the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) recognizes the existence of a pool of untapped potential available in young researchers all over Egypt, the Arab region and Africa that needs support and guidance.

CSSP has recognized that the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) is a key player in supporting research and researchers, and that it has played an important role in building Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) capacities on the national level. Accordingly, CSSP approached ASRT to establish a partnership with ASRT to fund a Joint Research Grants Program for Young Researchers where the program is entirely funded by ASRT and managed/administered by CSSP.

Objective

Universities and research institutions in Egypt, Arab Region and Africa need to be able to implement into practice the latest science discoveries and technological ideas for the benefit of the community. The joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program for Young Researchers seeks out the generation of creative and innovative research.

The Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program for Young Researchers guidelines are as follows:

  • The program offers research grants to maximum 50 young researches (40 Egyptians and 10 Africans), over two rounds.
  • The grant maximum duration is limited to 1.5 years (18 months).
  • Maximum amount of money provided per researcher is EGP 250,000 ( including 5 % administration fees-will be deducted) 
  • Over the two rounds, two workshops for young researchers are to be organized to build researchers capacities.

Researchers should be conducting an innovative applied research in one of the following areas:

  • Food & Agricultural Sciences
  • Medical Sciences
  • Environment
  • Engineering Sciences and Technologies

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The research should be an innovation for application beneficiary to the society in the applied area of study.
  2. Candidate must not exceed 45 years by the application year.
  3. Candidates must have completed their PhD.
  4. Candidate must be an African Nationality.
  5. The candidate must be currently working at a public/private academic or research institution in Africa.
  6. Egyptian candidates must be currently engaged or can arrange to work on a joint research project with counterpart(s) outside his working institution.
  7. African candidates must have Egyptian counterparts working in Egypt.

TOEFL waiver: Only for Candidate who obtained the PhD degree from English-speaking country and the PhD was conducted in English. (Please mention in the Online Application - Step 1: Personal Information - Comment)
