Abstract:
Leading aid models focus on economic growth and poverty reduction. The well-being approach aims for more comprehensive change. A recent study designed tools for implementing this new concept. For the past seven years, McGregor has led Well-being in Developing Countries (WeD), a multidisciplinary research group based at the University of Bath, UK. McGregor suggests that ‘while the MDGs may tell us where we want to get, it is a problem that they say very little about how we are to get there’. He argues that international development needs a practical concept of well-being if it is to make progress in confronting chronic poverty and the interlinked challenges of conflict and sustainability.
