Abstract:
Zambia is a lower middle-income country with a maternal mortality ratio estimated at 252 per 100,000 live births and neonatal mortality estimated at 27 deaths per 1,000 live births. About 97% pregnant women managed to attend the first antenatal care visit but this dropped to 64% among those who managed to attend 4 or more visits. Commencement of first visit is mostly in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy.
