Abstract:
The sustainable procurement of fruits, vegetables, and fruit salads by the Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn from African producers is described. Albert Heijn procures fruits and vegetables from Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and South Africa. In addition, the Albert Heijn development fund works with ICCO (the Dutch Interchurch Organisation for Development Cooperation) and FairMatch Support to invest responsibly in local projects in housing, education, water supply, and health.
