The 21st General Meeting of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) was held in Hyderabad, India, from 19 - 22 October 2010.
TWAS's General Meetings and Conferences provide an ideal forum to articulate its purpose and goals by showcasing the progress made in building scientific capacity in the South, as well as discussing strategies for meeting the challenges that lie ahead.
During the meeting, TWAS has announced the election of 58 new members, including 11 women. The current membership now stands at 1000 members.
The new TWAS members, including 4 TWAS-ARO members from 5 different Arab countries, will be inducted on the 22nd General Meeting proposed to be held in Morocco 2011.
It is worth mentioning that the Arab Regional Office is hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed El-Faham, Director, Center for Special Studies and Programs.
During the meeting, Dr. Mohamed El-Faham presented TWAS-ARO's activities for the year 2010 and discussed the future plans of 2011.
In cooperation with its 5 Regional Offices, TWAS has selected 25 new Young Affiliates from all over the developing world for the period 2010-2014.
5 young affiliates were selected from the Arab region from 5 different Arab countries.
