Ahmed Hamdy

Biography:

Dr. Eng. Ahmed Hamdy is Egyptian born in Cairo on 1968, Dr. Hamdy is currently the Executive Secretary of the African Union, Scientific, Technical and Research Commission; he is the former Head of Science & Technology and ICT Division of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Dr. Hamdy had accumulated 23 years of national and international work experiences out of which 10 years are devoted fully to Science and Technology policy for development. His main achievements in the field of Science policy were the mobilization of 167 million Euro for S&T and ICT in Africa through the book of light house projects. He is the founder of several African institutions and projects including the African Union Research Grant, Connect Africa Research and Education, African Leadership programme on ICT, African Internet Exchange Points, African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Award, the Pan African Intellectual Property Organization, African Science Technology and Innovation Observatory, the African Center for Infectious Diseases Surveillance, and the African Network on Sciences.

Before joining the African Union commission and for more than 5 years he was employed by the Korean Space Agency, and Chonbuk National University in South Korea as a researcher where he coordinated a good number of regional space application projects in South East Asia.

It is worth to mention that Dr. Hamdy is a member of the Egyptian National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics and he had all his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Egypt.
