Biography:
Tony holds a number of senior advisory roles.
Deputy Chairman, Arabian Plant Specialist Group, SSC, IUCN.
Advisor, Arabian Biodiversity Centre of Excellence, Saudi Arabia.
Adviser to H.H. Prince Bandar.
Director General, National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development, Saudi Arabia.
Associate of the University of Edinburgh
Vice Chairman, Friends of Soqotra (UK-based charity).
Co-editor (with Dr T Cope, Royal Botanic Garden, Kew) of the Flora of the Arabian Peninsula and Socotra.
CMEP is a group based at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
CMEP research focuses on floristic, systematic, molecular, bio-informatics and conservation studies in SW Asia.
The group works closely with governmental organizations and institutes throughout the region and is actively involved in botanical, horticultural and conservation training, capacity building initiatives and consultancy.
Works under the auspices of the Arabian Plant Specialist Group (a group representing botanists from Arabia); this has recently involved setting up an Arabian plant data base, preparing a Red List of Arabian plants, a checklist of plants of the Arabian Peninsula and a system of protected areas across the region.
A notable project over the last 15 years has been the development of a conservation program in the Socotra Archipelago.
