Biography:
The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) is a consortium of 12 natural history and botanical libraries organized to digitize the biodiversity texts in their collections and make it openly available, partner projects started in Europe and with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Garnett has over 25 years experience creating, scoping, implementing, and managing major digital library projects.
1998-present: Associate Director for Digital Library and Information Systems, Smithsonian Institution Libraries
1990-1998: Head, Information Systems Department, Smithsonian Institution Libraries
1983-1989: Systems Librarian, Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
1982 -1983: Systems Librarian, General Accounting Office.
Is a member of the Advisory Panel for Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
1983- 2001: American Library Association.
1995: Council for Excellence in Government Fellow.
1985-1991: American Cybernetic Society.
Organized Global Biodiversity Heritage Library with partner projects in Europe.
Conducted the project management for the Smithsonian Institution Libraries Digital Collections.
Conducted the project management of the Smithsonian Digital Document Repository Pilot Project to provide long-term preservation and management of the Institution?s research output.
Abstract:
