Mostafa Tolba

Biography:

Aside from being a Scientist, a University Professor, and Under Secretary of State for Higher Education, and Cabinet Minister, perhaps as a politician and a diplomat is where Dr. Tolba has made his most enduring contributions to the global environment movement.

Mostafa Kamal Tolba joined United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) as Deputy Executive Director and served as its Executive Director. He is professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Science at Cairo University, President of the International Center for Environment and Development and ECOPAST, Chairman of the Environmental Management/Egypt (EEMAN) and the Egyptian Society for Consumer Protection.

He is Chairman of the Reseach Council for Environment & Development; Executive Council of Scientific Technological Culture Egyptian Acadamy of Scientific Research & Technology Special Committee on Environment of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. Advisory Committee on Environment &Development Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Dr. Tolba is an alternate member of the Executive Board of UNESCO.

Dr. Tolba received many Academic Honors, as well as, many Prizes and Medals including the Global Environment Leadership Award, Global Environmental Facility (GEF).

Professor Mostafa Tolba was born in Egypt and educated at the Imperial College, London and Cairo University. He has written extensively on the environment, and his most recent book is Responding to Global Environmental Change (2001).
