Biography:
Rania M. El Backly (BDS, MSc, PhD), is currently Lecturer of Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, as well as a Researcher at the Tissue Engineering Laboratories at the Faculty. She graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in 2000, at the top of her class with honors degree. Since 1999, she has been actively involved in research as part of the tissue engineering laboratories team at the Faculty. She obtained her Master�s degree in Conservative Dentistry in 2006, with her thesis focusing on regeneration of the dentin/pulp complex. In 2009, she was awarded a scholarship from the Universita degli studi di Genova, Italy, and became a PhD candidate there. She then received her PhD in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine from the University of Genoa, in 2012; which was followed by an equivalent PhD in Endodontics, in 2013
She has presented her work at several national and international congresses worldwide including Austria, Egypt, Ireland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and USA. She has several international publications in peer-reviewed journals pertaining to the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and in particular, to dental tissue engineering and regenerative endodontics. Currently, she supervises several Master�s and PhD theses.
In 2014, she became Principal Investigator of several funded research projects in the field of regenerative dentistry and research innovation. She received several international awards including the Student Travel Award, TERMIS World Congress 2006 in Pittsburgh, USA; the award for best abstract for an oral presentation at the TERMIS World Congress, Vienna, Austria in 2012; and the award for best oral presentation at the SICOT Conference, Saudi Arabia in 2013. Dr. El Backly is also a reviewer for several international journals, such as Tissue Engineering, PLOS One, Artificial Organs, and others; and serves on the editorial board of a couple of peer-reviewed international journals.
She is also the recipient of Alexandria University Award for Scientific Encouragement for the year 2017.
