Mr. Mohammed YAHIA

Biography:

For over six years, Mr. Mohammed Yahia worked on raising the profile of science and science journalism in the Middle East. He graduated from Cairo University with a bachelor?s degree in Pharmacy and Pharmacology. After one year working in community pharmacies and for major pharmaceutical organizations, Mr. Yahia started reporting and editing for the Health & Science section at IslamOnline website. Since then he has written for many different outlets, including The Daily Star Egypt and IDRC.

Mr. Yahia was a media consultant with Kamal Adham Center at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He was involved in the inauguration of the AUC Virtual Newsroom inside the virtual world of Second Life, and taught a course there on media convergence using virtual worlds. He is interested in exploring ways to apply journalism to evolve areas such as social networks, virtual worlds, and media integration.

He is also closely involved with the science journalists community, both regionally and internationally. He is one of the founding members of the Arab Science Journalists Association, and is currently the Vice?President of the World Federation of Science Journalists.

In addition to his work, he has been involved in training journalists, specifically in the developing world. He has given training courses in Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar, Syria and Yemen, among others.

Prior to joining Nature Middle East, Yahia was the MENA region coordinator for the SciDev.Net website.
