Biography:
Prof. Darwish received his PhD in Computer Engineering from the
University of California, Davis in 1988. He received many awards; among
which: the Egyptian National Engineering Award (1999), Singapore Middle
East Eminent Persons Award (2007), and the Life Time Achievement Medal
for his distinguished career from the University of California, Davis (2017).
His most recent public positions were Minister of State for Administration
Development (2004�2011) with a portfolio on e-government, the Institutional
and Human Resources Development Program, and Governance. During
2015�2017, he was Governance and Chair of the Suez Canal Economic Zone,
where he laid the foundation of one of the largest Special Economic Zones in
the world (461 km2 and 6 ports).
He is a consultant to a number of international organizations such as
UNDP, UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), UN Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), FAO, UN-ESCWA, European
Union, and World Bank, as well as government organizations and companies
in Egypt, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the United States of America.
