Biography:
Massimo ZUCCHETTI (Torino, Italy, 1961), is a full Professor of Radioprotection and Safety and Risk Analysis at the Polytechnical University of Engineering in Torino (www.polito.it, zucchetti@polito.it). He is currently teaching History of Nuclear Energy too. He is married, with one child. He took his Master Degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1986, and Doctorate in 1990. He has been research affiliate and visiting scientist at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) from 2005 until present time (www.mit.edu, zucchett@mit.edu). His research interests deal with radioprotection, nuclear fusion technology, nuclear safety, radioactive waste management, depleted uranium. In the US, in particular, his main research interests deal with advanced-fuel fusion reactors, compact ignition tokamaks and hybrid fission/fusion reactors and experiments. He is advisor of the Italian Parliament for the Depleted Uranium question, and in charge for several contracts dealing the question if Italian nuclear power plants decommissioning. He is coordinator of the IEA Co-operative Program on the Environmental, Safety and Economic Aspects of Fusion Power, Task 6: Radioactive Waste Study. He is referee of several International Scientific Journals, associate editor of two international journals in the field of environmental pollution and safety, and author of over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and several books. He is vice-president of the MESAEP (Mediterranean Scientific Association Environmental Protection).
