Hans Georg Bartels works in the Global Challenges Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization on issues related to global health and intellectual property.

The Global Challenges Program supports the policy debate on public health, climate change and food security through a number of initiatives and with relevant neutral and fact based information.

Mr. Bartels had worked before as Head of the WIPO Life Sciences and Public Policy Section and as Head of the Patent Cooperation Treaty Relations with Offices Section I.

Prior to WIPO, Mr. Bartels worked in the German Federal Ministry of Justice in the Section for Patent Law and participated in the negotiation of a number of bilateral and multilateral instruments in the context of the EU, WIPO, WTO, FAO, and CBD. Prior to that, he was a judge in Berlin, Germany.
