Biography:
In 1992 he achieved his M.Sc. in geology and paleontology at the Free University Berlin. He took courses in logic, theory of science, and history of science at the Free University and received a three-year grant from the German Science Foundation in 1993 to complete a dissertation project on the history and philosophy of taxonomy. In 1997 he received his PhD in philosophy from the University of Bielefeld and left academia in 1998 to work as a scientific curator at the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden.
In December 2000 he returned to the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science to start a research position in the department of Hans-Joerg Rheinberger.
He taught courses in the history and philosophy of science at the Technical University of Berlin and held lectureships at the universities of Mexico City and Tel Aviv.
