On 14 November of every year, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) establishes the World Diabetes Day as a primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes community.
The rising diabetes epidemic noted by the escalating figures worldwide, urgently calls for the need for worldwide efforts to increase the global awareness of diabetes and its threats. With the passage of the United Nations, the World Diabetes Day is now declared a United Nations Day.
As a contribution to this global event from the EMME region, and as an important landmark in Egypt, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) will participate in this UN initiative.
In collaboration with Prof. Morsi Arab, Chairman of the International Diabetes Federation Eastern Mediterranean and Middle-East (EMME) region, the BA will light up the World Diabetes Day's logo on the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center (BACC), as well as host a speech of support given by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA; representatives of health care authorities of the Egyptian government; WHO representatives; Prof. Morsi Arab and other representatives from diabetes NGOs.
This distinguished gathering will communicate to the UN and to the whole world what expresses their unity with the international community to work on effecting the UN recommendations of doing all efforts to combat diabetes.
