The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) in cooperation with the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) are organizing the International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS)held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS) is organized every 4 years in different countries of all the continents. Usually more than 300 barley geneticists, breeders, and researchers from more than 60 countries participate regularly in the IBGS. The Symposium covers a diverse range of applied and basic research on barley.
The First International Barley Genetics Symposium was held in Wageningen, the Netherlands, in 1963. 106 participants from the worlds famous barley researchers have attended. Since then, the Symposia are now the most important events for barley breeders and scientists, where results and current trends are presented and discussed.
The Symposium has been held five times in Europe (the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, and Czech Republic), twice in North America (USA and Canada), and once in Australia and Asia (Japan). The last Symposium was held on 20-26 June 2004 in Brno (Czech Republic) and was attended by about 350 delegates.
