1st Sustainability Forum: Regional Future of Sustainability Debate in the Arab Region: Voices from the South
On the occasion of the World Environment Day, the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, West Asia Middle East (WAME) Regional Office in cooperation with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the 1st Sustainability Forum entitled Future of Sustainability Debate in the Arab Region: Voices from the South, which will be held on 4th of June, 2008 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

This Forum, co-organized by Bibliotheca Alexandrina and IUCN WAME and funded by Ford Foundation, will encourage multi-stakeholder reflection and will help devise commitment for action. Moreover, it will integrate local and regional knowledge into a new generation of sustainable development thinking and practice; and help embed biodiversity and ecosystem values into mainstream economic and social sectors.

This initiative is inspired by discussions on The Future of Sustainability idea. A base document entitled The Future of Sustainability: Rethinking Environment and Development in the Twenty-first Century has reviewed humanitys progress towards sustainability and the main challenges facing humanity at the beginning of the twenty-first century, including the risks and costs of climate change and continuing loss of biodiversity.
