Research Ethics and Commercialization Workshop
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in cooperation with the Arab Regional Office for the World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS-ARO), continue their support towards young researchers by organizing the "Research Ethics and Commercialization" Workshop. The event took place 19-21 November 2013, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, Egypt.

The three-day workshop provided a great opportunity for researchers through open discussions and recommendations on research ethics in the field of Applied Sciences. It had also tackled Research Quality and Commercialization topics.

This Workshop enabled researchers to be acquainted with tools for efficient patent searches. There were discussions on international and national Intellectual Property (IP) Laws in the Arab Region, and the impact of IP Laws on research and innovation and conducting research responsibly. The Workshop also focused on Internet Laws and Digital Age problems.

The Arab regional office of the TWAS (TWAS-ARO) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina sponsored the travel and accommodation of 30 young Arab participants to attend this workshop.

Target Group

Young Arab researchers who perform Cutting Edge Research within the fields of Life Sciences, Technology or Development.
  • An Arab national citizen
  • A young researcher, under the age of 40 years
  • Holds an MSc degree


Registration

The applicants were requested to send their registration form, CVs, letters of references, and a copy of Passport for non-Egyptians and a copy of ID/Passport for Egyptians.

The Organizing Committee had reviewed all the applications based on the uploaded CV and other merits. The best 30 applicants were selected to participate, and priority was given to researchers who have publications and are currently working on a scientific research.

Deadline to receive complete application was 11 August 2013

ONLY accepted applicants were notified by 18 August 2013.

BA/TWAS-ARO covered:
  • Airfare for non-Egyptian candidates
  • Hotel accommodation from Monday, 18 November (arrival day) to Thursday 21 November, for a total of 4 days in a double room
  • Lunches and coffee breaks in the Workshop venue (BA)
  • Transfer to/from the hotel, and BA
  • Workshop materials
  • BA tour
