Under the auspices of President Hosni Mubarak, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) 16th General Meeting.
The event was inaugurated by President Hosni Mubarak who welcomed the participants and the scientists attending the meeting.
President Mubarak additionally stated that it was an honor for the BA to be chosen to host TWAS's regional office in the Arab World, since the BA is considered a center of science and knowledge and a center of dialogue among cultures and civilizations.
The meeting brought together around 300 scientists and specialists in education as well as science and technology fields to discuss a number of issues concerning science and technology in the developing countries. These issues were highlighted in lectures, panels of discussions, workshops and roundtable discussions.
