The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted the "Natural Resource Policies in the Near East and North Africa: From Management to Governance" conference which was organized by the "International Food Policy Research Institute" and the "International Fund for Agricultural Development".
The conference revolved around several key issues and themes including:
1- What is empowerment and how can it be measured?
2- What are the determinants of natural resource management capability?
3- What policies can empower rural poor communities to access and manage the natural resources on which their livelihoods depend?
4- What institutional changes are required to implement these policies?
5- What are the pathways to empowerment?
