We place great emphasis on
training and recognition of effort. Requirements for training are enshrined in the law,
covering employees, including supervisors, in certain industries, as well as safety and
health professionals. Promotional activities, recognition schemes and tax incentives,
encourage employers to achieve standards that are more stringent than what is required by
law. Over the years, the Annual
Safety Performance Awards scheme has succeeded in giving OSH performance a very
high profile and an added focus to the contributions of OSH professionals. The Noise
Control Awards, (or NCA) introduced in 1999, have inspired companies to
implement effective engineering control measures to minimise noise exposure. With the
success of the NCA scheme, the Noise Control Award will be incorporated into a wider
recognition scheme that will encourage companies to control other workplace health hazards
as well. This new Occupational Health Best Practices Award scheme, which will be
introduced in 2004, will have two categories of award - Noise Control and Chemical
Control. |
