The number of
deaths and YPLL were calculated from WSDH (1996)*.
The number of hospital bed-days pertaining to violence with firearms were calculated from CHARS (Comprehensive Hospital Abstract Reporting System). Diagnoses pertaining to E-codes were unavailable from the Regence Washington Health data base. So, the outpatient-related component of the health index was not calculated, and therefore, the total YPLL figure 2,679 is underestimated.
