To millions of physicians, epidemiologists, and
public health practitioners, Sir Richard Doll is famous for publishing
landmark papers in 1950 and 1954 with Sir Austin Bradford Hill demonstrating
a statistically significant link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer.
However, Sir Richard’s contributions to epidemiology, to academic medicine,
to King and Country, and to humanity were truly extraordinary. This
presentation is intended to lay the framework for a living memorial to Sir
Richard Doll with contributions from many of his friends and colleagues. As
you will see, he was both admired and loved by many around the world and his
science saved the lives of millions by highlighting the benefits of smoking
cessation.
