At least 30% of
diabetes cases were unknown before the survey. No attempt was made to categorize diabetes
into IDDM, NIDDM and other types of DM. Comparing the data on prevalence of DM and IGT according to screening to the data of DM registry of Novosibirsk City (age group 25-64 years also), the real number of DM and IGT patients is much higher than number of previously diagnosed DM and IGT cases.
