This study examined 110 patients who were
tested for Factor V Leiden mutations at the Genetics Laboratory at the
University of North Carolina between September 1995 and October 2001 and
were older than 18 years of age (n=303). Because 107 patients were excluded
for various reasons, the remaining 196 may not reflect a representative
sample. Patients were asked to complete a 5-page questionnaire with
quantitative and qualitative questions. 110 patients participated by
returning the questionnaire.
Most were between ages 41-60 (42%) and Caucasian (92%); 46% were female, 43%
had completed high school and 25% had completed college; 37% had an annual
income of over $70,000 per year. Interestingly, 10% did not know why they
were tested. |
