This graph of
the additive predictive value of the total cholesterol:HDL cholesterol ratio with the
level of CRP also demonstrates that measuring both of these parameters appears to do a
better job of predicting vascular risk. Of note, however, even among individuals in the
lowest quartile for total cholesterol:HDL cholesterol ratio, a group most of us would
presume to be of low vascular risk, the relative risk of future vascular events increases
quite dramatically as the level of CRP increases. Reference:
