Several
different types of studies done within countries confirm the relationship between various
measures of primary care orientation and better health outcomes. These studies include
ecological analysis such as supply of primary care doctors and health indicators, case
control studies examining outcomes with receipt of care from primary care physicians,
hospitalization rates and supply of primary care doctors, survey data on receipt of care
from a primary care doctor and subsequent mortality and costs, and path analyses at
various political jurisdictional levels. All have shown a beneficial impact of better
primary care orientation. |
