A normal
perfusion lung scan effectively rules out PE in the vast majority of patients. Withholding
anticoagulants has been shown safe. The exception is the patient with a very high clinical
suspicion, because a central, non-occluding embolus may yield a normal perfusion scan
result. However, it should be stressed that this is a very rare occurrence. |
