MRA is a relatively new modality for PE. Recently, the use in larger cohorts of patients with suspected PE has been shown feasible. However, subsegmental emboli are easily missed, leading to similar problems as helical CT. One of the main advantages is, that repeated studies may be performed (for instance for follow-up after treatment), because it does not use ionizing radiation.
