Hepatitis virus
E is a 27~34 nm RNA virus. It is enterally transmitted non-A, non-B
hepatitis, and outbreaks occur primarily as water-borne epidemics in
countries with poor environmental sanitation. The victims are mostly in
young adults (15 - 40 yrs), and uncommon in children and elderlies.
In pregnant women, the symptoms are severe with case fatality rate of as high as 20 %. It is a self-limiting infection like as HAV without chronicity. |
