The results section of a
research paper or speech, usually involves conducting one of two
numeric tasks: 1) Describing a pattern such as a trend across time
or a difference across groups or causes of death. 2) Using
statistical analysis to test a hypothesis about relationships among
the variables under study. For those tasks, think ahead about
whether it makes sense to describe things in empirical order or
according to some theoretical basis for grouping the items, then
organize the table or chart accordingly.
