This graph shows that the
greater the number of primary care physicians (family physicians, general internists,
general pediatricians) in the 50 US states, the higher the life expectancy. However, some
states have much lower life expectancy than would be expected given the number of their
primary care physicians, indicating that other factors, some sociodemographic, some
socioeconomic, and some possibly related to social policy, also influence health
