Scientific Research and Digital Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) through Academic Research Sector, the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), organized a seminar entitled Scientific Research and Digital Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities that was held on Monday, 13 May 2024 at 12:00 noon (Cairo time) at Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, Small Theater.

Scientific Research and Digital Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities seminar discussed the ongoing digital transformation revolution which the scientific research is witnessing. The seminar shed light on the importance of developing a high-performance enabling environment for scientific research in the context of the rapid digital transformation. This seminar aimed to address the opportunities and challenges researchers face in the digital age, such as:

  • How digital transformation and its driven technologies, including machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and other advanced technologies, are changing the whole scientific research ecosystem.  
  • How to address the unequal access between institutions and countries to the latest digital transformation tools and driven technologies.
  • Ethical considerations: the ethical frameworks that need to be established for AI and big data applications in scientific research.
  • Digital and technological skills gap: the necessary skills researchers should acquire to cope with the rapid ongoing technological advancements.
