Finally, collaboration is essential in making epidemiologic studies successful.
No single epidemiologic study can be done without the collaboration of other clinical
departments. For example, for our clinical study, we opened a center for clinical
epidemiology in the Ajou university hospital in order to fully support the project.
The center for clinical epidemiology functions as a coordinator in the project. The
center oversees the activities in the three collaborating departments and manages
patient participation. It makes appointments, conducts clinical examinations,
educates patients and consult them.
We’ve presented some of the findings from an ongoing gestational diabetes epidemiologic
study in Korea. It was a very successful study and we are expecting to see many more
results that will be helpful to the medial community as well as to the general public
in preventing diabetes in high risk population.
