53 per
cent of respondents believe that women occupy the subordinate position in the family but
the majority of respondents do not agree with the statement that she must take this
position in the family. Inequality of men and women is more likely to be caused by
cultural traditions rather than the physical superiority of men.The survey findings show that the main occupation of women
in Kazakhstan is that of housewife (more than 70% of respondents agree with the statement
that the main role of a woman is to bring up children and take care of the family). Men
are more “out-oriented”, which means they have more chances to get a well-paid job and
get promoted. At the same time, the women surveyed do not agree that men are more clever
than women are, nor that men have more chances to receive a good education. |
