In a report from the Medical Birth Registry of Norway, women's own birth weight was inversely related to their later risk for gestational diabetes. The U-shaped curve presented here has been identified in other studies and is most likely attributed to the increased birth weight and increased diabetes risk of offspring of diabetic mothers.
