In addition, the available literature suggests that SES is
not likely to account for the associations observed. The limits of nutrition epidemiology
are being tested. Sorting out the most optimal prenatal nutritional environment is
problematic. To add to the difficulty, maternal nutrition does not necessarily reflect
fetal nutrient supply. Finally, the fetal insulin hypothesis has strong merit due to its
