It is important to
realize that the type of risk analysis conducted in this lecture is far from
flawless; it is only exploratory in nature. There are critical issues
inherent in the analysis that need to be resolved first. For one thing,
there is an induction issue on linking the fish consumption observed
to the POC residues monitored. More bluntly, there may not even be
any direct correlation between high consumption observed and high residue
level detected even when both of these events take place in the same
vicinity. Note that not all fish species in the same vicinity are
contaminated by the same chemical or to the same extent. Some fish species
do have lower (or higher) fat content than others have (see, e.g.,
Gall, 2004). |
