With
respect to local statistics in 1995, and particularly Allegheny County Data, at least 20%
of pregnant teens were smoking, with the highest rate of at least 33% found in the teens
18-19 years old. Among 15 to 17 years olds, at least 25% reported smoking. Nationally, non-Hispanic White teen moms have highest smoking rates of 29.6% Other ethnicities have lower with rates ranging from 5 to 9%. However, similar to non-Hispanic White teen mothers, trends suggest that smoking rates among American Indian and Non-Hispanic black teens mothers have been increasing since the mid 1990’s. |
