Proportionate
Mortality Ratio (PMR) - When we compare the proportionate mortality in one age group or
occupational group to the entire population, either for deaths from all causes or from a
specific cause. Does not directly measure the risk or probability that a person in a population will die from a specific disease, as does a cause-specific mortality rate. Differences in PMR do not reflect the risk of dying from a disease, but the differences in mortality from other causes of death. PMR does show within any population group the relative importance of specific causes of death in the total mortality picture. |
