   Biography

Prof. Sherif F. El-Khamisy is a pharmacist by training, the chair of molecular medicine, a Wellcome Trust Investigator and the co-founder of the Healthy Life Span Institute, University of Sheffield, UK. He also founded the Genome Center at Zewail City, Egypt. El-Khamisy lab uses a combination of biochemical, genetic and whole animal approaches to study how cells maintain genomic integrity in health and disease, and their impact on public health. His early work revealed the importance of repairing chromosomal single-strand breaks to maintain neurological function. More recently, the lab discovered new players and mechanisms for repairing oxidative and protein-linked chromosomal breaks and uncovered their connection to human disorders such as ataxia, dementia, ALS and bacterial infection. The lab work has been published in Nature, Nature neuroscience, Nature communication, Science advances and Cell Reports among others. His work has been cited ~ 4470 times with a 9-year H-index of 31. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Royal Society of Chemistry. His work was recognized by awards from the Nobel Laurette Dr Ahmed Zewail (Caltech, USA), the Lister Institute of Preventative Medicine (UK), Shoman Foundation (Jordon), the Academy of Scientific research (Egypt) and the Wellcome Trust (UK).
