Ehsan Masood is a science and policy writer, journalist and broadcaster. From 2009 to 2017 he was Editor in Chief of the science policy news magazine Research Professional and since 2007 he has taught Science and Innovation Policy Communication at Imperial College London.
From the end of June, he will take up a new role as the Bureau Chief for Editorials, Africa and the Middle East at the science journal, Nature.
Ehsan was a Fellow of the Knight Science Journalism Fellowship Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology during 2017-18, where he investigated the impact of the McCarthy purge on US academics and universities.
He has made several documentary programs for BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service including Surviving McCarthy (2019) and Science: Right or Left (2013) that explored why centre-right audiences are losing trust in the scientific consensus. In 2009, he wrote and presented a three-part series also for Radio 4 called Science and Islam, to accompany his book: Science and Islam ? a History (Icon, 2017 second edition).
His most recent book is The Great Invention on the story of GDP and the search for alternative economic indicators (Pegasus, 2016).
Ehsan studied Applied Physics at Portsmouth Polytechnic, UK and Science Communication at Birkbeck, University of London.
