Ali Ellebedy is a viral immunologist with 14 years of experience studying cellular immune responses to influenza viruses. He was born in Asyut, Egypt. His family later moved to Cairo where he graduated with a BSC in Pharmaceutical Science from Cairo University, in 2004. It was during his time at Pharmacy university that he was first exposed to, and became fascinated with studying immunology. In 2006, this interest took him to the US where he earned a PhD in Viral Immunology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2011. Then he moved to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a postdoctoral fellow and a Vaccine and Edward Jenner Vaccine Society Young Investigator. In 2017, Ali moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he started his own laboratory as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine. His’s current research is focused on understanding the dynamics, diversity and durability of antibody and memory B cell responses after influenza virus vaccination and infection. Specifically, his lab studies B-cell responses to the major glycoproteins expressed on the virus surface, Hemagglutinin (HA) and Neuraminidase (NA).
