Higher-dose
aspirin (300 g/d) was used in a randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover trial of 40
patients with clinically stable angina and signs of ischemia on 48-hour Holter monitoring.
Macrophage colony stimulating factor (M-CSF), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and CRP were
significantly reduced with aspirin at 6 weeks. This study also compared M-CSF, IL-6, CRP,
and IL-1b levels in 60 consecutive patients with stable angina and 24 healthy controls
matched for coronary artery disease risk factors. Compared with controls, patients had
more than twice the median levels of MCSF, IL-6, and CRP (p<0.01 for each) but IL-1b
did not differ between groups. Reference:
