Within the CARE
trial, the effect of statin therapy on CRP level was completely independent of the
underlying lipid response. CARE patients who had inflammation present and those who had
inflammation absent had identical levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C, and
triglycerides at baseline. Reference:
