Google Glass

Feeling too immersed in your technology? Cannot take your eyes off your iPhone or your laptop? Perhaps you are considering buying that new iPad you have been admiring for quite a while now?

Well, I have got news of a new up-coming gadget that will make you reconsider your options. And no, it is not yet another “i” gadget by Apple, this one is by search giant and Android platform creator Google, and it is a brand new invention, unlike any in your current collection of bulky technological devices.

I am talking about Google Glass, the pair of ‘augmented reality glasses’ that have been generating a lot of buzz amongst the gadget obsessed since Google unveiled them to a handful of developers last spring, long before their official public release.

The smart glasses were shown off in a wild stunt-filled demo, complete with skydiving, BMX biking, and rooftop rappelling, all in an effort to generate public interest in the new wirelessly connected gadget.

Android based and voice activated, the glasses will contain all of the features that you expect of a smart phone, but instead of having to reach for your phone to get connected, everything will appear literally before your eyes.

The glasses are designed to display real-time digital information on the small heads-up screen mounted on the right side of the rims, while the fitted camera allows the user to transmit videos or still images of what they are seeing to others wirelessly, allowing them to see the world through their eyes.

From having the weather forecast pop up on his screen as he glances out of his window and getting live turn by turn directions as he explores New York, to tracking the location of his friends and video chatting on the go, the user in the demo showed off some of the possible functionalities of Project Glass.

Now Google have officially dropped the “project” status from Glass and allowed a selected group of developers to try it out and come up with all sorts of different applications for its use. They also set a date for the wirelessly connected eyewear to hit the shelves, and that is by the end of this year. (Hooray!)

Want to see how Glass actually feels? It is surprisingly simple. Say "take a picture" to take a picture. Record what you see, hands free. Even share what you see, live. Directions are right in front of you. Speak to send a message, or translate your voice. Get the notifications that matter most. Ask whatever is on your mind and get answers without having to ask. All video footage captured through Glass. Welcome to a world through Glass.
