The incidence curve for proliferative retinopathy shows that there is, at longer durations, a fall off in the incidence perhaps reflecting the high cumulative incidence already achieved at that time. The small rise at 35+ years is of interest and may reflect the increased incidence of renal disease seen at these longer durations.
